Chery's New Super Hybrids: 2000km Range on a Single Tank and Charge! (2026)

Revolutionizing the automotive industry, Chery introduces its cutting-edge Super Hybrids, promising an extraordinary 2000km range on a single tank of fuel and charge. This groundbreaking technology, set to debut in the upcoming Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 SUVs, is a game-changer for long-distance travel. With a focus on efficiency and power, Chery's new plug-in system aims to reduce fuel consumption and enhance performance, making it a top contender in the market.

The key feature lies in Chery's sixth-generation hybrid technology, targeting a 2000km driving range on a mix of petrol and electric power, a significant leap from the current 1200km range. This advancement positions Chery's Super Hybrids as the longest-range new cars in Australia, capable of traversing the entire Sydney to Melbourne route without refueling or recharging. The technology is set to roll out in popular models globally from late 2026 or early 2027.

Chery's commitment to innovation is evident in the development of two versions of the new-generation Super Hybrid system, tailored for different-sized models. SUVs weighing between 1500kg and 2000kg will feature the 'DHT160' system, delivering 160kW and 275Nm, while those over two tonnes will boast the 'DHT230' system, generating 260kW and 330Nm. These advancements are part of a broader upgrade strategy, including model year updates and facelifts, with a focus on powertrain technology enhancements.

The electric motors, designed with a '16 in one' concept, offer a 30% reduction in weight and volume, spinning up to 24,000rpm. Additionally, they employ innovative cooling technology for improved heat dissipation during towing. The new hybrid system will be paired with an 18.46kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, ensuring durability and enhanced waterproofing and puncture resistance.

Despite a slight increase in size compared to the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid, the new battery pack is expected to deliver a 3% improvement in fuel economy, with a real-world fuel consumption figure of 2.98 litres per 100 kilometres. Chery's ambitious goal is to achieve a 2000km driving range, making it a formidable contender in the market.

The current Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid, with its 60-litre fuel tank, claims a 1200km hybrid range and 1.4 litres per 100 kilometres in lab testing. Chery's new technology, however, aims to surpass these figures, offering a more comprehensive solution for long-distance travel. The upcoming arrival of Chery SUVs with this advanced hybrid technology in Australia remains uncertain, leaving enthusiasts eagerly awaiting further updates.
